SHAH ALAM: Two Abu Sayaff terrorists were killed by police at Timbang island, some 6km from Sandakan town today. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the duo was part of an ASG cell believed to be planning to kidnap the owners of oil palm plantations on the island for ransom. The money from the ransom was supposed to be used for the group’s lair in Sulu, the Philippines.

Hazani was reported by Bernama as saying that the kidnapping for ransom attempt was foiled after one of the ASG cell leader, Sansibar Bencio, revealed during interrogation of the plan. Sansibar was arrested last May in Beaufort where five ASG terrorists were killed in another shoot-out with police.

The two suspected ASG terrorists were killed in a shoot out with a police team around 5am today. A semi-automatic Colt .45 pistol and a parang were recovered from the remains. Hazani said the shooting came a day after police arrested 11 Filipinos, also believed to be ASG members, during an operation on the island following Sansibar revelation of the kidnap for ransom plan.

The duo killed had fled into the oil palm plantation when they saw their colleagues detained by the police team which were supplemented by personnel from ESSCOM and the military.

Hazani said the police were on the on-look-out for a small number of ASG militants who had managed to slip into Sabah to work illegally.

  1. congratulation to the malaysian police. This type of intel that keep our country safe

  2. Yes. The only way to deal with these is not to nego n talk. They only understand bullets. So give it to them. Better they die than to allow our personnela to be killed

  3. @Lee

ASG understand bullets can get lotsa monies.

I’m playing the devil here, if China want to distract us + Philippines, among options is nego & buy ASG services to create troubles in Sulu Seas.

  4. Nimitz,

There are other more effective and discreet ways of doing so if they wanted to. Dealing with a small group of lightly armed men entering our waters to kidnap people is not much of a distraction.
