PGB Awarded to SB Officer

SHAH ALAM: The King on January 17 awarded Pingat Gagah Berani (PGB) – the second highest medal for gallantry – to Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohamad Hasnal Jamil for his sacrifices in the incident at Kampung Simunul, Semporna, Sabah in 2013. Mohamad Hasnal, 42, was the sole recipient of the PGB at the investiture ceremony.

The release below did not state why the medal was awarded some `11 years after the incident where Mohamad Hasnal was shot in the stomach and left arm. He was also hacked on his head and arms with an axe which resulted in permanent disfiguration. He is currently attached to the Special Branch in Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur.

Six of Mohamad Hasnal colleagues were killed in the incident on March 2 2013 which was part of the Lahad Datu incursion. Two other policemen were killed a day earlier in Lahad Datu.

WIRA INSIDEN PENCEROBOHAN PENGGANAS DI KAMPUNG SIMUNUL, DSP HASNAL DIKURNIA P.G.B.
Kuala Lumpur, 17 Januari 2024 – Wira Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) yang terlibat dalam insiden pencerobohan berdarah dekat Kampung Simunul, Semporna, Sabah pada Mac 2013 lalu, DSP Mohamad Hasnal Jamil hari ini dikurniakan pengiktirafan tertinggi negara apabila menjadi penerima tunggal Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Gagah Berani (P.G.B.).
Pegawai Kanan Polis dari Cawangan Khas, Bukit Aman itu dikurniakan P.G.B. oleh Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah dalam Istiadat Pengurniaan Darjah Kebesaran, Bintang dan Pingat Persekutuan di Balairung Seri, Istana Negara, di sini, pagi tadi.
DSP Hasnal yang hampir kehilangan nyawanya dalam insiden berdarah itu terkena tiga das tembakan yang mengenai bahagian perut dan lengan kirinya, selain ditetak hidup-hidup di kepala serta tangan dengan kapak oleh pihak pengganas sehingga meninggalkan parut kekal ke hari ini.
Anak jati negeri Kedah itu kini meneruskan khidmat baktinya dengan penuh tekad perjuangan serta azam yang tinggi tanpa sedikit pun merencatkan tugasnya untuk terus menabur bakti kepada agama, bangsa dan negara.
Bagi pihak seluruh warga PDRM, kami mengucapkan syabas dan setinggi-tinggi tahniah kepada Wira Negara, DSP Mohamad Hasnal Jamil atas pengurniaan P.G.B. Semoga tuan terus diberi kesihatan berpanjangan dan ganjaran sebaik-baiknya atas pengorbanan yang dibuat kepada negara oleh Yang Maha Esa.

Six of those killed in the incident were awarded the PGB, posthumously. Two GOF sargeants – Sjn Baharuddin Ramli dan Sarjan Norihan Tari were awarded the PGB for the shooting incident between the border of Malaysia and Thailand in September 2020. Baharuddin was awarded the award posthumously as he was killed in the incident.
