SHAH ALAM: Army ordnance training on the NLAW. IT appears that the Army Ordnance Corps has been issued with at least one Next Generation Light Anti-Tank Weapon (NLAW) training round. The NLAW training round is likely part of the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit based in Mempaga, Pahang. The unit trained EOD specialists from the military, police and coast guard as well.

Malaysian Defence has reported the procurement of the NLAW in 2018 and 2019 but there has not been any public picture of the NLAW since then. The first public picture of the training NLAW was published by BTDM on September 16 following the visit of the Army chief Gen Zamrose Mohd Zain to the 91 Central Depot in Kuala Lumpur. As usual there were not many details on the 91 Depot itself and its capabilities apart from the pictures themselves.

I am aware that the picture of the NLAW training unit has been circulating within the last few months but since I do not have the permission to publish it, I have chosen not to use it here. With the NLAW training unit already in service, it is likely that the weapon is already in service with the Army.

  1. There remains two things I know we had but I’ve yet to see photos of; Armbrust [in small numbers] and the M-20 [replaced by Carl Gustav].
