SHAH ALAM: RMAF has issued three separate quotation notices for chemicals and paint for maintenance work on three aircraft, the Airbus A400M; IPTN/CASACN-235 and the Beechcraft B200T. Both the B200T maritime surveillance aircraft and the A400M airlifter are operated out of the Subang airbase.

The CN-235 – MSA, transport and VIP – are operated by No 1 Squadron from the Kuching airbase in Sarawak.

The notices above showed RMAF determination that MRO work should be done by the service itself. The service of course sent out the components for repairs to OEM or approved maintenance providers if they lack the capabilities to do it.

The QNs also proved that any attempts for local MRO centres are simply another attempt of building castles in the sky.

  • I am more intrigue that the B200T MPAs are still flying? Wasn't someone said it has reached their airframe lifespan?

    • No, they are still flying, though 02 has been stored at Airod for some time now

  • Ahh so it was fake news that they were at their last legs and urgently needed to replace. With 3 MSA, 2 B200T MPA, and 2 ATR72 MPA plus in future 2 AEW id say we are well covered in the maritime airspace for the foreseeable future, won't you say so?

    • No, not really, the B200T are not meant to fly beyond 2025. But of course anything could happen to the MPA programme. I am guessing RMAF is preparing in case if its delayed and have the B200T ready for that.

  • There are even more ancient planes still in service. Not just as warbird but doing actual work

    BT-67 for example
