SHAH ALAM: Back in November 2021, Malaysian Defence wrote a post on the MTO to ship two new Fire Rescue Tenders (FRT) or fire engines from Austria. The MTO was for two FRTs even though the tender for the RMN Lumut Bomba was for two vehicles only.

From the original post:

The tender for the FRTs was published in April 2021. The company awarded the contract is Star Fest Sdn Bhd and the award price is RM4.45 million.

On May 5, the RMN Lumut naval base took delivery of four FRTs. According to the release, the four were part of two separate orders, two in 2022 and another four in 2024. However, checks on Eperolehan only showed one tender in 2021 for two FRTs, which according to the release was delivered in 2022.

Another tender was published in January 2023 for four FRTs but it subsequently cancelled. It is likely that Star Fest was given a VO order for the 2021 contract to supply the four FRTs to the Bomba TLDM. Two of the newly delivered FRTs will be based at the Lumut naval base with one each in at KD Sri Kuantan, Kuantan, and KD Sultan Ismail in Tangjung Pengelih, Johor. The MTO tender for the four FRT was published in March, this year.

As reported in the original post, the FRTs are from Rosenbauer of Austria with the chassis from MAN.

Turut hadir, Pegawai Memerintah KD MALAYA, Pegawai Memerintah Depot Senggara Kenderaan Barat, Wakil PERO 3 dan wakil Bahagian Material Markas Tentera Laut.

  1. For how long needed replace a new one. I believe the usage not that high compare others military vehicles. Their life span should be much longer.

  2. Strikes me odd that initial ordered in 2021 which delivered in 2022, then a tender goes out in 2023 but cancelled, effective the original tender would have closed once delivered in 2022 so how did they managed to VO onto the 1st order after it has closed, i wonder. More creative accounting and for beancounters to look the other way? 🤔

Or maybe direct nego for new order hence why didnt see a tender out for 2nd batch?
